How Christy's Draperies Began

In 1998 I started Christy's Draperies inside Antiqueland of Plano. Business was good, as we offered an option of getting the custom look without spending a fortune. We have always searched out great fabrics at good prices and then make up panels and valances. This way, the consumer not only saves money, but gets to take them home to see what they look like in their rooms. This makes the process fun and easy. The customer is less likely to make a mistake, because they can see what they are getting. Our story is special because it took a long time to get to this point. Not having any formal training, the process had to be learned. Having a love of fabric and decorating made it fun.

In the very beginning, I bought and sold used window treatments. After a few years of reselling used treatments, it became apparent that in order to have more control over inventory, I needed to make new items. Starting from scratch made it a breeze to keep up with the latest trends and colors. Ten years later my daughter and I closed the store in Antiqueland and opened a new stand alone store at 121 and Preston in Plano. It has been a wonderful journey, and I have loved working with my daughter. How many mothers get to say that? Having lost my mother to breast cancer when I was 18 months old, I treasure all the time I get to spend with my children.
